2020

Intersection’s 2020 initiative, LISTEN, is a year long project celebrating the 100 th anniversary of the 19 th Amendment and lifting up the voices of women. Our goals are:

  • To highlight and deepen our understanding of Tennessee’s role in the passage of the 19th amendment
  • To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment
  • To highlight the voices of women composers and artists
  • To use contemporary classical music as a mechanism to celebrate the contributions of women in our society and community
  • To work with community partners to tell the stories of Tennesseans impacted by Women’s Suffrage and to explore Women’s Suffrage throughout the world
  • To commission a new musical work honoring the centennial of the 19th amendment

All of our programs in 2020 will connect with this project. Stay tuned for more details throughout 2020 about additional activities and events. The centerpiece of our project will be in AUGUST of 2020 with the world premiere performance of a newly commissioned work for instrumental ensemble and contemporary dance. Partnering with New Dialect, this work will explore the lessons we can learn from the passage of the 19th Amendment and how this connects to our life today.
